GasNet

Gasnet is a breakthrough wireless communications network for monitoring process variables such as pressure, flow, temperature, water content, and vibration, in gas distribution mains larger than 4 inches in diameter. Gas distribution utilities can use the information Gasnet generates inside the pipe networks in order to more efficiently manage the national gas distribution network. Gasnet consists of a self-powered network of no-blow installable and no blow replaceable field-sensors/nodes capable of communicating wirelessly through the pipe to a utility’s central control station. Gasnet’s pipe-internal sensor wand is capable of hosting a variety of sensors, a safety housing, a power supply, and a remote graphical user interface. Data may be communicated through the pipe, wired over cellular phone networks, or logged locally for periods up to months. Nodes may be set up as networks or stand alone dataloggers. The information collected in real time is sent to a utility’s central-control station allowing the utility to monitor the gas delivery process across entire networks from a single computer-console.

Gasnet is currently undergoing field testing.
